Alexa McLaughlin
Alexa was born in the city of Monroe, Michigan. Growing up she found herself encountering numerous events both in her medical and family life that brought her to use art, poetry, and school work as a crutch to escape from reality.
Attending the University of Toledo, in Toledo, Ohio, she found herself through courses in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program, using digital and photographic methods. Using this, she and another student both designed and took photographs for the Toledo Federation of Arts Society’s first catalog. Studying her own medical conditions, she used her experience and worked towards transforming her conditions into physical objects; using different processing methods to affect the shape of the image. Eventually, she found herself drawing into images and collaging onto physical prints as well as digitally to create different forms.
